Following the sell-out success of Macbeth in 2012, Pistachio Choice Productions returns to The Drayton Theatre in South Kensington with its ‘lost & found’ double-bill of two of Shakespeare’s lesser known works: Pericles and Cymbeline. Pistachio Choice focuses on re-imagining Shakespeare’s works with an emphasis on clarity and audience immersion. By putting these two rarely performed Shakespeare plays together, Pistachio Choice aims to shine a light on their status as accessible, unique and equally enthralling works in comparison to the popularity of his other more frequently produced plays. Using the intimate and versatile space of The Drayton Theatre, both productions will explore these less familiar stories using only four actors. Fresh from working on Alan Bennett’s People at The National Theatre, Drew Mulligan directs Shakespeare’s ancient Greek adventure of Pericles, which spans six countries and twenty years as he encounters love, loss and a longing for the life he never had. For the second play of the double-bill, director Antonio Ferrara will guide us through Shakespeare’s ‘most famous unknown play’: Cymbeline, King of the Britons. The Shakespeare Association of Korea invites papers exploring topics and issues of "Shakespeare in Global/Local Contexts" for its 2013 international conference to be held on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of its foundation. Oxford Theatre Guild is staging a bold new adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henry VI from December 11th to 15th at the Theatre at the Old Fire Station in Oxford. Condensing the original 3 plays into a single powerful narrative, and performed with an entirely gender-reversed cast, this is a unique look at power, loyalty and fatal ambition. The Société française Shakespeare is organising a week-long
conference from 21-27 April 2014 in Paris to coincide with the 450th anniversary
of Shakespeare’s birth. The program will include plenary lectures,
roundtables, workshops, seminars, panels, along with performances at
various venues, theatres, concert halls, museums, libraries, artists’
studios and bookshops.
The conference is backed by a large number of French and international
institutions and organisations.
The international organising committee welcomes seminar, workshop or
panel proposals on all aspects of Shakespeare’s works, their reflections
in painting, sculpture, opera, on radio and screen, as well as issues of
performance, critical theory, poetics, commemorations, textual and
scenic rewritings, translation, biography.
For 2014, panel proposals will welcome up to four papers per session.
Panels may extend for more than one session. Workshop and
seminar/roundtable proposals may include more participants; it is up to
the organisers to determine their precise form (open discussion,
position papers followed by a roundtable discussion, etc.).
Panel, seminar and workshop proposals should include:
- name and university affiliation of proposed leader(s);
- title of panel, seminar or workshop;
- a 500–750 word description stating topic, relevance and approach;
- a 5-line bio of each seminar leader including their email address(es).
