Flute Theatre was set up by RSC actor and director Kelly Hunter in 2014 to create productions of Shakespeare for inclusive audiences. We have two ways of making our work; both are immersive and intimate. The first strips away the pomp and ceremony of Shakespeare’s plays to reveal the essence of their humanity with fresh, original theatricality. Twelfth Night is made in this way and premiered at Teatro La Veleta to critical acclaim this summer at Almagro Festival, Spain.
The second method goes even deeper into the essence of Shakespeare to create productions specifically for children with autism and their families. The Tempest was created in 2014 and has toured internationally, performing for children with autism and their families in the UK, USA and Spain, in English, Spanish and Catalan. In Autumn 2017 we are making A Midsummer Night’s Dream, our second show for children with autism in co-production with the Orange Tree Theatre and English Touring Theatre. Our productions are site sympathetic, adaptable to space and language.
We are now looking to continue our journey across Spring/Summer 2018, with an emphasis on International Theatre festivals looking to programme high quality and exciting work. We are already in conversations with Neuss Globe, Germany and International Shakespeare Festival Craiova, Romania to return with Twelfth Night, after the success of our production of Hamlet in 2016.
We have also been invited to bring A Midsummer Night’s Dream to Teatre Lliure, Barcelona next Spring, following the success of The Tempest in March 2017. Our work is entirely unique. We want to offer these groundbreaking experiences to as many people as possible worldwide. We rely on grants & donations big or small to make this happen. Please donate today to become part of Flute’s journey.
